What is azelaic acid?

Azelaic acid is naturally present in our skin, but the ingredient used in skincare can be found naturally in grains, like wheat. Azelaic acid is most commnly used in "leave -on"-products, which you don't wash off.
At Common Clouds you can find Azelaic acid in our super serum Cloud Milk

Cloud Milk Soothing Redness-Relief Serum

Who is azelaic acid suitable for?

Azelaic acid is suitable for all skin types, and especially useful of you have any of the following:
  • Enlarged pores
  • Acne
  • Perioral dermatitis
  • General redness
  • Rosacea
  • Hyperpigmentation

Why is azelaic acid good for acne skin?

Azelaic acid has an active antibacterial effect which counteracts the spreading of bacteria that plays a role in both acne and rosacea. It effectively helps against excess sebum production and reduces pore clogging.

How is azelaic acid useful for hyperpigmentation and post-blemish marks?

Azelaic acid slows down overproduction of the melanin, which helps with hyperpigmentation, including marks left behind after acne and melasma. At the same time it reduces redness and flushing of the skin, therefore it's also suitable for sensitive and rosacea-prone skin!

Azelaic acid offers a wide range of applications and we love that!

Can I use azelaic acid every day?

Yes you can! Cloud Milk contains 10% Azelaic acid which has been shown in
studies to be the most effective level. If you are worried about getting a
reaction, you can always start by introducing azelaic acid 2-3 times a week.

Can I use Cloud Milk during the summer?

Absolutely! Azelaic acid doesn't make the skin more sun sensitive. However, since it's an acid, it's always a good idea to use sunscreen to be kind to your skin and protect against new hyperpigmentations. If you have acne or breakouts, SPF is an important tool to prevent long-term scarring.

Can I use azelaic acid when pregnant or breast-feeding?

Yes, you can! But as always during pregnancy or when breastfeeding, listen to your skin.
